Chlorine Dioxide and Lyme Disease MMS

If you have suffered with chronic Lyme disease for some time, there is a good chance that you have heard about using chlorine dioxide or a substance referred to as MMS or Miracle Mineral Solution as being associated in conjunction with overcoming the effects of Lyme. There are two camps separated by a vast chasm where one camp of formerly chronically Lyme-affected individuals claims its undeniable efficacy, while the others insist that the solution is extremely dangerous and using it may kill you. The second group is backed by the FDA and supported fully by major media outlets. Due to the discrepancies between these two extreme points of view, it is highly suggested that one conducts their research, exercising due diligence to reach one’s own conclusions.

How does MMS work?

MMS (which stands for Miracle Mineral Supplement or Miracle Mineral Solution) is made from 22.4% Sodium Chlorite and distilled water that is mixed with an activator to create chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide is produced by activating sodium chlorite, which has no real use by itself but is a precursor to chlorine dioxide gas.

When activated with a weak acid solution, like citric acid which is naturally found in lemons, the resulting solution contains chlorine dioxide, a small and volatile molecule that utilizes oxidation to react with various substances. This versatile compound is approved by the FDA and EPA as a pesticide for applications such as food service, municipal water treatment, mold and odor removal, medical use, and personal care products like mouthwashes and toothpastes. It is also commonly used in eyecare and personal water treatment due to its environmentally friendly nature compared to other forms of chlorine.

How was MMS discovered?

Jim Humble, a gold miner and metallurgist, discovered and developed a solution while on an expedition in the jungles of Central America. When two men in his group fell ill with malaria, Humble utilized such a solution to make questionably sourced local water drinkable. On one particular trip, Humble’s crew contracted malaria and were rapidly dying. To everyone’s surprise, the men recovered in four hours after receiving high doses of Humble’s water purifier. Curious about this result, Humble spent several years researching the effectiveness of these water purification drops in treating malaria cases. Through further investigation, he learned how to increase the concentration of chlorine dioxide and its effectiveness in battling parasites such as malaria and Lyme co-infection Babesia. As a result, many Lyme patients have been using MMS safely for years to combat these co-infections. Jim Humble’s findings are documented in his book, The Master Mineral Solution of the Third Millennium.

Is MMS safe to use?

Even though it can be used as a pesticide or industrial cleaner, and it isn’t a natural substance, you need to know that MMS is safe to use in prescribed doses and applications, and no deaths have been recorded from its use. That is much more than you can say about many Lyme disease treatments, both natural and pharmaceutical.

Some websites and online posts may warn about MMS being bleach and potentially harmful when consumed. There are also articles falsely connecting it with household Clorox bleach. However, the ingredients in Clorox bleach are quite different from those in MMS, as the latter contains chlorine dioxide while the former has a combination of other chemicals. Although both substances have a chlorine scent, this does not make them similar. Various chemicals, including oxidizers like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), can be considered bleaching agents because they can remove pigment. This is something that chlorine dioxide is capable of, but it should not be confused with common household bleach like Clorox, which can be extremely dangerous if ingested and offers no internal health benefits.

Also, chlorine dioxide is not the same as chlorine, which is used for water purification at home, in pools, and in hot tubs. It is true that both kill pathogens, but chlorine dioxide does it in a different way and more efficiently without causing toxic byproducts. As opposed to chlorine, chlorine dioxide selectively kills pathogens by oxidation and does not bind to other compounds. Additionally, its process is selective, ignoring beneficial gut flora and goes after dangerous pathogens based on their electrical charge.

Lyme Disease Success Stories

While there are many success stories of individuals who have battled chronic Lyme disease successfully, still the American medical establishment and the authorities reject these claims as heresy and claim that Mr. Humble is a con artist or snake oil salesman. Claims that you might expect being heralded by those who profit immensely from asserting that there is no cure for chronic Lyme disease, or any other disease for that matter. One author, Herb Roi Richards, shares his personal story in, Lyme Disease Non-Medical Diagnosis and Treatment: How I Kicked Chronic Lyme disease in One Year for Pennies.

What is the process?

In contrast to many other disinfectants and antibiotics, chlorine dioxide effectively eliminates even the most resistant super bugs and viruses by targeting them at the molecular level. This powerful compound operates on two fronts – oxidation and hindering protein formation – making it impossible for pathogens to develop resistance. As a result, chlorine dioxide has been scientifically proven to eliminate a wide range of harmful microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, molds/funguses/yeasts, protozoa, biofilms, intestinal parasites and spores without using any poisonous methods.

What is the best way to use it?

After mixing the sodium chlorite and activator drops to create the MMS solution, it can be used as instructed by the protocol, and can be found commonly available as a two-part kit to create chlorine dioxide water purification drops in outdoors and recreation stores in the camping section. It is important to remember that each prescribed 3 drops of activated MMS consist of 3 drops of both activator and sodium chlorite solution. Please note that we do not provide medical advice or recommend ingesting high amounts of MMS solution, ever. The following information is simply for informational purposes and research, for those who wish to experiment using data from books written by Jim Humble, which are difficult to find after being banned by the FDA and Amazon.

Protocol 1000

The main MMS method is known as Protocol 1000. This involves consuming 3 drops of activated MMS every hour in a glass of water, for a total of 8 hours per day, over the course of 3 weeks. However, for those suffering from Lyme disease, the official MMS website suggests using Protocol 2000. This involves taking as many drops of activated MMS as one can handle without experiencing worsened symptoms or developing diarrhea. The recommended duration for this protocol is 10 hours per day, for a total of three weeks or until improvement is achieved. It is advised to start with one drop or less per hour and gradually increase to the maximum tolerated amount.

Inhalation of MMS

According to Jim Humble, 2 drops of activator are added to 2 drops of solution to create 2 drops of MMS and inhaled gently to treat colds, upper respiratory infections, etc. The inhalation of higher drop doses is not recommended due to the possibility of lung damage.

Bath Protocol

Humble says that the Bath Protocol is effective against rashes, cold sores, dermatitis, eczema, skin cancer, even melanoma. You bathe in MMS by placing 30 drops of activated MMS in a cup and adding it to your bath water. Take a 20 to 30-minute bath. If you have open wounds or open skin sores, reduce the MMS to 20 drops.

MMS Spray

According to Humble, MMS can be used for various skin conditions such as sores, burns, wounds, psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer, ringworm, acne, rashes, staph infections, and athlete’s foot. For optimal results, a 2-oz. glass bottle sprayer can be purchased at a local drug store. Mix 20 drops of activated MMS with water in the bottle and wait 3 minutes for it to become effective. The solution will remain active for about 3 days and can be easily sprayed onto desired areas for healing.

MMS and DMSO

With PROTOCOL 3000, by mixing MMS with DMSO, the solution can penetrate deep into and through the skin layers to attack tumors and deep joint infections, according to Humble.

Jim Humble’s daughter, Paris Humble, has released the latest book about chlorine dioxide that is based on her father’s work, though she states, “Chlorine dioxide does not treat or heal any disease, what it does do is to eliminate pathogens that are hindering your body’s ability to heal itself.” Her book is entitled, Healthy Alternative Chlorine Dioxide Uses Non-pharmacological Health Restoration.

When trying out any Lyme treatment, it’s essential to take a gradual and cautious approach to avoid exacerbating your symptoms. Although MMS does not directly produce toxins, it can trigger the release of substances like cytokines that lead to inflammation, resulting in a Herxheimer reaction. Taking a measured dosage of one drop at a time will assist you in determining your body’s tolerance level and enable you to continue treatment without having to stop due to excessive herxes. In case you do encounter a setback, several toxin binders are available to aid in the speedy elimination of toxins.
